Technical Austere Medical Evacuation (TAME)- Charleston, SC

The premier course for those who do or wish to provide en route care or medical evacuation of casualties in resource-limited environments.

This course was built by experienced evacuation care providers. The intent of this course was to provide students the opportunity to learn the intricacies of providing en route care, in austere and technically demanding settings around the globe. If you are looking for a traditional flight paramedic class, this is not it. Our intent in this course was through a non-standard classroom setting provide didactic and practical application of skills necessary when providing care in the air or on the ground.

This course is designed as a preparatory and refresher course to those providing standard and non-standard Enroute Care. Taking our collective domestic and OCONUS experience, we feel we have built a course that answers an obvious disparity in the prehospital and operational medicine communities. This course focuses on hands-skills paired with immersive scenarios with in-depth after-action reviews.

The distinct nuances of the enroute Care environment require bespoke solutions through training and education. Like all of our other offerings, the TAME program is built to enhance your practice and not waste your time. We take an approach to any of our educational courses that are meant to grow you as an individual provider, vs an arbitrary metric of expected goals.

The course does have a heavy critical care “theme” with many of the topics, and there will be course information to review prior to the arrival to class. However, compared to our TMP program there will only be 5 hours of online content.

The course itself is 5 days, with each day having substantial hands-on opportunities. The class will run from 0800-1800 daily, with extended training on Thursday evening (completing NLT 2359)

Scenarios will be performed in small groups, culminating in a multi-phased evacuation scenario with a handoff to a receiving facility.

Some Previous Students Feedback:

“Key takeaways: The importance of comprehensive clinical AND operational understanding when conducting non-standard operations. Most Enjoyable: I found the exercises/scenarios, and the non-standard classroom environment to be most enjoyable. It was stressful and demanding, but that is the type of challenge that I signed up for.”

“Very fluid which allowed for expansion on certain topics and less on stuff that was concise. The relaxed atmosphere made it easier to absorb knowledge each day because I didn’t feel uncomfortable.”

“The ability to move a patient from point of injury to evac platform using off-road vehicles and other means was excellent. Doing treatment in a plane or other platform was incredibly eye-opening and an excellent experience. I got to use equipment that is not usually available to me and made me more confident in my skills”
